SpellenFestival 2018

For the third year in a row SpellenFestival took place on a very sunny Sunday in late September. Our Raymond “DuMeeple” Dumee and Diana “Sparkly Unicorn” Dumee Adams drove all the way to the Belgium city of Genk. Main purpose to play board games, meet old friends and make new friends.

The hall layout was great, there are two Friendly Local Game Shops selling their games, each covering one opposite side of the hall, https://spelhuis.be and http://www.oberonn.be. In between that, the hall was filled up with tables and board games. The http://www.limburgsewolven.be arranged a few good games of werewolves with a little red riding hood and https://www.escaperoomgenk.be built a small example of an escape room. https://www.999games.nl had an enormous game of Leo with them and enough games to fill their tables. Unfortunate there are always to many games and too little time. Either way we played a few good games and had a nice view on others.

Black Box Adventures.
Our bearded friends from Black Box Adventures where also at the convention and it is always good to see them. I was excited to try out their new upcoming board game Adventures in Neverland. We had the opportunity to get the rules explained by the designer Vicky Swers. When visiting their booth, the only downside was we were not able to receive our copy of their Kickstarter Itchy Monkey, which we backed. So that was it for about the information about Black Box Adventures!

Game Brewer.
Next I visited Game brewer and where I wanted to give Gugong a try, all the tables were occupied by a happy few and I started photographing another game of them Called Gentes. Of course, somebody of the crew came up to me “If I was interested?” and we sat down for a nice explanation about their games and the game in front of us. Gentes looks like a civilization game in with you play a tribe and become more civilized and how they say it without playing for about four hours like the original Civilization.

Quined Games.
Our last game at the convention was Raiatea. Somehow I still don’t know what was going on, but our host Paul also known as Rick was very funny. We played a few rounds and a lot was going on. You have your own little house to keep your amount of mana and pearls secret and whatever you would like to keep secret. The game looks amazing and I really like the theme

That’s it for now. In the next couple of weeks, we want to put some of the attendant publishers in the spotlight on their road to Spiel in Essen which takes place later this month. Therefor we saved some of the gathered information to tell you later.

We want to thank everybody at SpellenFestival for a great day and already looking forward to revisit next year!
