Spiel Essen 2019 – Jolly Dutch Productions

During Spiel in Hall four there was a lot to find, but I think nobody was expecting a Jolly Dutchman in traditional Amsterdam clothing, I for certainly didn’t, but this was their way to lure the Spiel visitors to their booth to play their board game Chartered: The Golden Age. Of course, as a “Rotterdammer”, no way I going to be lured into playing a game set in 1600s Amsterdam. Lucky for me, they publish also other games.

Like Boogie Beasts, in this crazy party game you have to let your inner animal come out to go sky-diving! I don’t know why animals have to go sky-diving, but apparently, they do. You have four jump runs and in these you have to plan your jump. Best is to jump in formations which you will create with other players, but time pressure and bluffing players will sabotage your ideas to become the Boogie Beast champion themselves.

One of their upcoming games is Herrlof, this game is set in better times and a better place. The Viking ages in Scandinavia! In these times, you have to fight for your title as King, those where the days... Or they settle it with a Card Game. The game was explained to me by Inge van Dasselaar on of the designers and is a trick taking hand management card game and your goal is to reach fifty points or more.

All very nice games, and of course including Chartered which had a really good table presence and for sure it is nice to meet new people and Jolly Dutch Productions was new to me until now.
