Spiel Essen 2019 – Inside Up Gaming

It is always good to visit Conor and Joe at the Inside Up Gaming booth at Spiel Essen. Not only for their terrific games, but maybe even more because of the intense hugs Conor gives away for free! This Canadian hospitality goes very well while enjoying their latest games, because they brought even two new games to Essen.

The Quick and the Undead is a worker placement, set in a small town in the Wild West and is overrun with the Undead. Up to the players to take the control back over the town. A round start with secretly selecting an action to place their outlaw and act accordingly in the action phase. Actions can be, shooting Undead, gain some money or bullets or steal something from another Outlaw. At the end of the round, when there are no Undead on the street there is a possibility to purchase a building for their unique action.

The game plays quick and I like the push your luck in the shooting mechanism and like being in a real western, players often duel. It is even so, that in an even of a tie at the end of the game in Victory Points and in money the tied players duel to the death for the winnings. This game can be played with two to six players and can take up to an hour. This game will be hitting Kickstarter on October 31st and I wish Inside Up Games all the best and success with their campaign.

Their other game, Conor insisted on it I wasn’t going to leave Spiel without playing it and because I was planning on going home at some point, we had to settle this. So at the end of the Saturday, it was time to rise up and 7 Souls have been played and tested. In this card game players become the Elder Gods and they try to take control over the weak humans to gather support, power and of course souls!

I cannot say more than that I like the game and the art is so wonderful and really sets the ambiance for the game. The game takes up to forty minutes and can be played from two to six players. You can actually, almost immediately start to play and after the first round, some rules explanation and advice from Conor we played the second round mostly by ourselves. Small detail was that Conor was playing along…

Although the art can be a bit bloody or creepy sometimes, the gore level is low and cartoonish, which makes it still suitable to play their games for younger players. It’s that what I like about the games from Inside Up Games and their great personality from the whole team. Conor even brought his dad to Germany and that family touch really gives a warm feeling to the company. Conor, my friend until next year and I am already looking forward to the games you will bring! But until that time make sure dear readers to check on their running Kickstarter for The Quick and the Undead.
