Spiel.Digital – Barefoot Games

The Sunday afternoon weather was fine and as you may understand we skipped the screens for a moment and went outside to stretch the legs and have some quality time together. Later on the day, after we had put the kids to bed, we decided to play a few more games to close off the Spiel.Digital weekend. Tipped by Board Game Heaven, I searched for Barefoot Games to try a game of Trolldilemma.

This quick fantasy card game is about getting the most coins with your gang of Troll bandits. Cards have two sides, with a Troll or a Skull. The Troll side has a priority, and the aim is to get the card with the higher priority as they will grant the owner the highest rewards, but often it also has a negative effect for the player. All together a nice mind fuck, which card you want to acquire.

Another game I tried from Barefoot Games is Chef a la Card, a card game where you try to gather ingredients for your recipe and after you have enough, you will display your cards and you pitch your food creation to the other players. After that, everyone give scores to each other for their dishes. A fun and practical game, I also see the opportunities for more cooking inspiration, and as far as I understood from the designer, that was exactly how he intended his game.

Indie publisher Barefoot Games had organized a nice Discord channel which they remained open for demos still. That was how I was able to try out Chef a la Card and maybe in the future Artificial Life 101. Both games I played until now, are great to get the evening (or diner) started.

Troll Dilemma would have been great at a real table and Chef a la Card even better at a big dining table. That could be possible, the German version is already for sale and there is a English version of Chef a la Card upcoming, in the first quarter of the next year. Also in that same period, they will most probable launch a kickstarter for Trolldilemma
