Spiel.Digital – Taiwan Boardgame Design

Next stop was one we returned to quite often during Spiel.Digital, mostly because Smoox arranged a wide variety of new Taiwanese games, which some of them I really wanted to try. Taiwan Boardgame Design is a collective of Taiwanese boardgame designers showing and selling their games to the European markets. So lets find out what they brought this year.

Mostly by coincidence, I saw at the Taiwan Boardgame Design discord channel, that a new game of Monster Busters was starting and if someone wanted to join. Aim of the game is to defeat monsters with your fellow players, but your fellow players could secretly decide to retreat and all could be lost. Our game was explained by the designer himself Zong-Hua Yang.

Friday night, just before I wanted to go to bed, I ended up playing Macaron which is a upcoming trick-taking game in where the players play French pâtissiers preparing macaron gift boxes. A nice twist is that you have to predict, before the round starts, how many tricks you think to get. Good for me the game was fun and more important quick, as it was getting late and I needed some sleep.

We also had an explanation of The Apocalypse of Darkness Warfare, but I wanted to try some more games which looked interesting to me, like Why you Lying! and The Three Little Wolves. I hope I will be able to try them now after Spiel, like I did last weekend with Scrolls of a Northern City, which was awesome. Especially because Smoox took the time to show us the game and to have a chat with Spiel visitors one week after Spiel and we all already kind of missed it, despite it being digital.

Taiwan Boardgame Design is keeping their discord server open to occasionally set up some demos for interested visitors and for the ones interested in their games they can be preordered through Pegasus Spiele.
